Wonderful trail in Dugi otok
Today I share with you a walk that I really enjoy. In fact, discovering the area and the island of Dugi otok has never been easier thanks to the work of the tourist office, which has recently cleaned most of the trails on this island. Because these are ancient paths that the people of this land have always walked along beautiful coves and over spectacular hills.

Firstly, today’s walk is not an endurance test, and in just a handful of kilometres you can discover a place of rare beauty with breath taking views.
Ready? Immediately we start from the Church of Our Lady Carmel in the centre of the small village of Verunic. Besides this village is exactly in the north of Dugi otok, one of the best islands of Croatia.
To begin with, the path is so wide and made of white stone. Beyond that, as you continue along the trek, on the right you can see olive trees and uncultivated fields. Indeed in ancient times, Croatian islanders used to grow potatoes, tomatoes and other good vegetables near their homes. However, the younger generations tend to abandon these lands to seek work in the coastal cities.

Soon you reach the intersection. In fact in front you see the Adriatic Sea, while to the right you notice a path through the greenery. Always keep your eye on the red and white circled symbol that marks the walk to the end. Now the ground is soft as you walk on grass while the scents of wild herbs such as rosemary and sage tickle your nose.
After a few minutes the path climbs. Nevertheless, you proceed without difficulty. Certainly, you pay attention to trail symbol that at this point sends you in the direction of the hill. Hence you are now above an old stone wall, and you are walking along a certain slope.
Without a doubt it is wise to wear sneakers and no flip flops.

Undeniably in my opinion, the walk makes sense if you stop every now and then to enjoy the view. Indeed, behind you the view sweeps by. In front you lies the village of Verunic whereas to the left, the see the Adriatic Sea and the cliffs of the Kornati National Park. Furthermore to the right you can see the biggest lighthouse of Croatian and other islands.
Equally important to remember that along the entire trekking trail there are no bars and no possibility of buying anything. Therefore, bring a bottle of water and maybe a sweet, which always puts me in a good mood. Certainly, you continue the trail upwards and by the way, you can now see the stone cross at the top of the hill. Since the last stretch is very steep and the stones are not always stable, be very careful.

Finally, here we are at the top. Surprisingly at this point you have a 360-degree view. Here you see the flat area and Sakarun, one of the best beaches in Croatia and its tallest lighthouse. Without a doubt you realise that nature is truly magical here: the green vegetation clashes with the sea so blue as to be kitsch. Here, nature is unspoilt. Moreover, the only thing that reminds you that the chaotic world exists are the plane contrails that occasionally pass over your head. For the rest, there is only silence interrupted by the chirping of the birds and the crowing of the chicken from the valley henhouse.

Soon you sit back and enjoy the moment unhurriedly. At this point, your thoughts flow as your gaze sweeps over the horizon. Overall, you seem to find a solution to all of life’s problems, because in the midst of nature in a place like this you relax and regenerate.
However, the time comes to get up and say goodbye to such a special hill. At this point the descent is quick and easy. Because it is pity to end the trek, when you return to the wide road you turn right and reach the Lokva Bay. Here the sea is so crystal-clear sea, that you have to jump from the pier: impossible to resist.
